Roti to become part of free food on Tirumala

Roti to become part of free food on TirumalaAcceding to the demands of the north Indian devotees, the TTD administration started serving Rotis from today in some of its canteens.

On a trial basis, Rotis would be served in the canteens of employees and those of the Padmavathi and SV Guest houses on the Tirumala Hills. This will go on for a month during which the TTD will collect opinions of devotees and pilgrims to make necessary changes, if any.

After the trial period, the Roti would become part of the free food being served to lakhs of devotees daily in its free food distribution centers. Till now, all devotees are getting free food consisting of rice, curries, sambar, curds and other south Indian items on the Tirumala Hills after the darshan of the lord. Henceforth, devotees will have the option to go for rice or Rotis or both.

The introduction of Roti follows several repeated demands of the north Indian devotees who generally take Rotis and do not consume cooked rice.
