Well known social activist Swami Agnivesh said today he would request the central election commission to cancel the by election for Kadapa Lok Sabha seat as contesting candidates spent more than Rs.350 Cr to influence the voters.

 

Speaking to media persons in Hyderabad this evening, Swami Agnivesh said that no single party was to be blamed for the violation of code of conduct as all contesting candidates threw the norms to the winds aiming at victory in the by polls.

 

“YSR congress, congress and TDP are equally responsible for turning the by polls into a pure money affair and the by poll must be cancelled and a fresh election ordered,” he said adding that he would meet the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi and request him to cancel the by poll.

 

Reminding that the Election Commission has got a right to cancel the polls in case poll expenditure of candidates exceeds the permitted limits, Swami Agnivesh said the Kadapa by election attracts cancellation for violating election commission’s code of conduct in all respects.
