The Peking University Cancer Hospital, China called for blood samples from virgins in the age group of 18 to 24 to conduct studies on the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) that usually spreads with sexual contacts.

The hospital’s request was condemned by many on the social network.  Some said it is promoting virginity worship, some opined that it is an insult to the women and some questioned whether science wants only virgin women’s blood samples but not male virgins.

The hospital authorities defend that it is an international practice to collect blood samples from virgins as they stand less chance of getting affected by HPV.  They also said that the donor’s word is enough for that meaning that no virginity tests will be conducted.

Virginity is a pre condition for marriage in the eastern countries like China, India other countries that have been observed as a tradition that has made deep impression on the minds of the male.  That is why the ceremony of giving hand of daughter in marriage is called ‘Kanyadan” in India but not ‘Kumaridan’.   But it is not a pre requisite for the male.  That is the reason why mentioning of virginity made many people particularly women get mad with the request the hospital made.
