
Maestro Illayaraja the Raaja of Raagas is a global figure and is ever the 'master of masters'. Time immemorial his name shall remain in the sands of time. Born from a rural background and with a folklore theme the maestro has scaled peaks. However the music master is still at his down-to-earth mode, even to this day.
Illayaraja today celebrates his birthday (69). Wishesh team bows to the maestro for his tremendous achievement in music. While talking about Illayaraja, I have almost grown up listening to his music. I also have the honour of living on the same road of the doyen in Chennai.
The maestro has created some everlasting impressions in the music world with some serene melodies. The greatness of this stalwart is he has his credits in both Indian and western culture, probably considered as the perfect bridge between the both.
To date, he has composed over 4500 songs and provided film scores for more than 950 Indian films in various languages in a career spanning more than 30 years.
He has won acclaims from across the globe and from the Royal family of UK too. He became the first Asian to compose a full symphony performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London's Walthamstow Town Hall.
