Guntur District Tops in HIV Patients - 68,067  identified cases

Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh tops the list of HIV effected patient who are prone to AIDS.  The minister for Indra Kranti Patham, Sunita Laxma Reddy revealed the statistics of HIV positive between 2002 and 2011 in the State Legislative Council.

According to the statistics, total 6,01,393 people were tested positive for HIV.  In response to a question raised by CPM member C Seetha Ramulu, Sunita Laxma Reddy has said that Guntur district has topped the HIV list by recording 68, 867 HIV cases, which is followed by East Godavari district with 62, 984 and in third position stand the capital city with 61, 316 cases followed by Krishna district with 55,392 patients.

She has also said that Adilabad recorded low number of HIV infected cases. It has 6,065 patients.

The minister has also said that the government was in a thought to release around 200 rupees for each patient who has been undergoing treatment.

It may be mentioned that HIV infected person may develop the dreadful AIDS at any point of time in life. On an average, it would take at least a couple of years for a HIV infected patient to develop AIDS. Once tested positive for HIV, the doctors keep the patients on medication to increase the CD4 cell count in blood.
