B-Wood expands horizon to Latin America

Latin America on American terms refers to the areas which are inhibited by people who have a `Romance of languages.’ Here people are dual languages spoken unlike in America. The predominant languages are Spanish, Portuguese, French and of course English. This cultural mix is an ideal setting for B-Wood films as they hail from a secular country too.

As per an online report, Hindi filmmaker UTV Motion Pictures is treading into this area. They would initially launch in to Peru where there is a concentration of Indians living. ` Latin America as a new market is a focus for us. The Indian population is limited in Peru, which makes it even more significant an achievement to have managed a release for the film there. We're looking forward to the Guzaarish release in Peru,’ says Amrita Pandey, Senior Vice President of International Distribution and Syndication at UTV Motion Pictures.

It is almost a decade since Indian films have been creeping into the American theatres to woo the Indian Diaspora, living out here. But well over the last few years B-Town films have been admired by Americans too. Films like 3 Idiots and My Name is Khan did prove competitive to Hollywood releases. This has been an encouraging point for the producers to explore newer venues to earn that extra buck. The latest is that Guzaarish (meaning Request in English), the Hritik Roshan and Aiswarya Rai starrer is all set to test the maiden frontiers in the Spanish lands in Feb 2012. Close on its heels is `Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’(meaning, You and I, in English) is another Bollywood film on its way to Latin America, starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Much will depend for further bold steps by the B-Wood producers on the outcome of these two films in the `romance of languages’ lands. And shortly other film segments like T-Wood and K-Wood, would follow the trend, as world has become a global village after all.  (With Inputs from Internet-AarKay)
