Aam Aadmi Party [AAP] candidate from Rae Bareli Justice [retired] Fakhruddin pulled himself out of the election race however did not cite any reason for his withdrawal. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the sitting MP of Rae Bareli and AAP has pinned hopes on Fakhruddin.

With a huge set back, AAP has now decided to field Archana Srivastava, a social worker from Rae Bareli. Meanwhile BJP's candidate, activist and lawyer Ajay Agarwal filed his nomination papers on Monday for the same constituency.

Rae Bareli will vote on May 7th which is ninth and final phase of the polls.
