An increase in petrol prices again

Petrol prices rose by another Rs. 1.55 per liter last night. This is the fourth time, since the month of June, that prices of petrol have been revised, all thanks to rupee depreciation that has made oil imports expensive.

Earlier, oil companies had hiked petrol prices by 75 paise on June 1, followed by a Rs. 2 increase on June 16, and Rs. 1.82 per liter on June 29.

Although the firms have raised the rate by Rs. 1.55 a liter, the actual rates would vary from city to city, depending on local taxes.

Diesel prices, however, remains unchanged for now. The revised rates for diesel are due at the month end.

With the latest hike in petrol prices, all the gains made from four decrease in prices earlier this year, had been neutralized.
