The dead body of Sarabjit Singh, Indian national and Pakistani prisoner who succumbed to grievous injuries yesterday after inmates attacked on him, was handed over to Indian officials on Friday afternoon. The body has been air lifted to India to hand it over to Sarabjit's family members.
The two officials from Indian high commission collected the dead body after post mortem was conducted at Jinnah Hospital, where the 49-year-old breathed his last.
Sarabjit Singh had spent 22 years in imprisonment after he was caught in Pakistan in 90s. He was charged with his alleged involvement in explosions in Punjab that claimed over dozen lives.
Prime minister Manmohan Singh condoled the death of Sarabjit and demanded that culprits should be brought to justice. Pakistan officials too said that the judicial enquiry would be conducted and those found guilty would be punished.
