Rare coin auctioned for Rs 7 Lakhs

Numismatic folks have a big news which could be sad and happy at the same time. A rare antique coin, a rebel coin at that, which was dated to be as old as CE 1791 was auctioned recently. The coin is so rare that even the South Asian Catalogue, the trusted source for numismatic information has not listed the coin.

What is a rebel coin? A few kings were who tried to invade a region would issue a coin in the region even before they become the ruler of the kingdom. Such coins are absolutely rare and this one even more so because the coin is completely gold and belonged to Assam. 
This was a rebel issue from the Mughal period in CE 1791. The coin was bagged by an online consumer from the North who could have collected the coins of this particular region.

The auction was sealed at Rs 6.25 lakhs but once the taxs, VAT and insurance for the coin are paid, the bidder will have a final hefty bill that is over Rs 7 lakhs.

Bharat Simha, an Assamese ruler in the 18th century issued this gold coin. After he issued the coin he successfully was crowned the king in this region.
