Nelson Mandela wins even at 94

The former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who had been ailing since a few days was declared to be fit to go home on Thursday. He was admitted for a lung infection and a few gallstones were also removed, the spokesperson for the government said. Though he isn't back to his prime, the 94 year old has won over his ill health regaining normalcy, almost.

He would continue to receive medical treatment at home, in Johannesburg. After being admitted on December 8, his condition progressed to better health and was improving gradually. He, the government said, was comfortable at the hospital earlier. Doctors have taken extreme care of the apartheid icon because of his old age.

He would be receiving care until his complete recovery, the Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaja said. However, he urged to the public to respect his privacy.

The Nobel Laureate is widely appreciated for his works against the racism after the end of Apartheid in South Africa. He also served as the president of South Africa from 1994. At the hospital, the president, Jacob Zuma visited Mandela and his wife at Pretoria to wish the family Merry Christmas.
