Students win, Government yields to discuss on rape-in-bus case

Students who gathered in large numbers this morning in Delhi have made the central government yield to their rightful demands. The protest that turned chaotic at the India gate overseeing the Rashtrapathi Bhavan was brought under control after the government conceded to their demands that urged justice to the rape victim.

The Home Ministry had invited the agitating students for talks. Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs RPN Singh urged the students to calm down and said, the government is prepared to hold talks with their representatives over the demands. He added that the rape accused would be severely dealt with.

The 23-years-old medical student a victim to the gruesome rape, on Sunday, is right now battling for life at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. Six of the accused have been arrested, as the victim is slowly recovering, nevertheless the trauma is to haunt her for sometime in future.

The day (December 22) witnessed some tension moments when students gathered in large numbers and were proceeding towards the Presidential residence. However the police tried to control the agitating protestors with water cannon firing and lathi-charge. Many of them were arrested on the occasion. (Wishesh AarKay)
