FDI in retail vote; SP, BSP hold trump cards

After a hard fought Tuesday, the UPA government is hoping to win the vote on FDI in retail issue on Wednesday.  Telecom minister Kapil Sibal, the leading general for the government will once again lead the charge against Sushma Swaraj led opposition. Even though Mumlayam Singh's SP has a stand of morally not supporting FDI but in terms of the vote it will most probably stand beside UPA. Mayawati's BSP is likely to support UPA as well.

The much anticipated voting is expected to take place after 6 pm on FDI in multi-brand retail and on FEMA. The Opposition is insisting on two separate votes, one on FDI in retail and one on FEMA.

Meanwhile, BSP leader Mayawati knows she is indispensable and she says that SP is waiting for their decision on the issue. "The SP is waiting to see what decision we will take and they want to follow us."
BSP supremo told journalists.

The significance of the Uttar Pradesh parties has always been evident and this time it is even more.  Socialist leader Jay Prakash Narayan's words are best to sum up the situation. He said "When Uttar Pradesh sneezes the whole India catches cold..!"

With a big day ahead and the allies are keen to cash on the opportunity, even though numbers are on their side, the UPA  must have realized what it is like to be in a coalition government.
