Superstorm Sandy has made landfall and brought devastation to most of the east coast leaving over 50 innocent dead and more than 60 million victimized. Several thousand flights were canceled and millions were left powerless as the hurricane-force winds brought down cities on the coasts and disrupted the power lines. But it is always at times like these that the world comes together irrespective of religion, race, nationality and sex. The American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has proved this fact once again after it showered benevolence on the victimized states of the storm-torn country after it appealed to all Sikh gurdwaras to lend a hand.

AGPC President JS Hothi on Tuesday called for help from all the gurudwaras in the area asking them to be shelter homes providing food and other basic needs for all those who sought roof and bread.

"We appreciate the steps taken by the state and federal government ahead of the imminent danger but we are of view that the society at large must also come forward to help the need in this hour of crisis" the Coordinator of AGPC, Pritpal Singh said.

"As gurdwaras are often situated in large compounds, and have enough food and water in stores, we would like to help the needy'', he added.

He has also requested those affected to keep in touch with the state officials and gurudwaras in their localities and take shelter for safety and free food.

The gurudwara managements accordingly have been notified to have sufficient food and other needs stocked for availability at all times. "We Americans are all one at during this crisis and we will come out of it'', said Pritpal echoing unity throughout the nation.
