The tragic news of the death of Varsha, her daughter, had struck Asha Bhonsle while she was at Singapore for the Marathi International Film and Theatre Awards, MIFTA. She had to rush back to India for the last rites of her 56 year old daughter. The rites were conducted today in the wee hours at 3am-4am at the Chandanwadi crematorium in Marine Lines.

Varsha was also a singer and a columnist. She was a victim of depression and probably the reason for the suicide on Monday. Varsha shot herself  in the temple at her own house in Prabhu Kunj Apartments on the swish Peddar Road in south Mumbai.

Asha had come back to India immediately by night at 11 pm for conducting the funeral on Monday.
