Short after the work of Satyendra Nath Bose's immense contribution to the world of quantum physics was acknowledged, the chief of CERN Rolf-Dieter Heuer had also recognized his work and said that he was truly an eminent physicist who deserved a Nobel Prize while he spoke at the University of Calcutta in a lecture.
He also added that though Bose had not won the Nobel prize, his contribution was not undermined and was a stepping stone towards understanding the Higgs Boson or the God particle, indicating that the Nobel Prize merely a fancy commemoration to such a great personality.
In the lecture Heuer said that India had a great potential to be an associate member of CERN. "The Atomic Energy Commission, I hear, has agreed to the proposal and (former) president Pratibha Patil too visited CERN in October 2011. Now we hope India will soon apply for membership," he said.
India would have to shell 10 million Swiss francs an year to be an associate member of the CERN which is actually worth the expenditure as most of the applications to the CERN for an internship are from Indian Students.
Bikash Sinha, the Homi Bhabha Professor at the Department of Atomic Energy, said that they had already embarked on it and the process is yet to be sanctioned by the ministry of finance which could be finalized soon.
