Top Cop had been defending himself saying that what he did was the right talking of the Azad Maidan protests on August 11 which had killed two people and injured over 40 people. This statement followed the rumors that the government of Maharashtra has been mulling over the issue of the transfer or Arup Patnaik.

He spoke to NDTV saying that he had executed his duties of restraining and preventing the worsening of the situations in the protests against Assam violence of the ethnic clashes in the Azad Maidan. Responding to the question of the policewomen being hurt in the violence he said that the media overreacted and the news was either false or exaggerated.

Former Mumbai Commissioner of Police Julio Ribeiro also defended Arup Patnaik saying that that he did an exemplary job in the protests.
Is the government and MNS taking advantage of Arup Patnaik and fleecing him of his rights?
