Twitter to face Government's rage

Twitter which has not complied to the demands of the Indian government after repeated requests to censor the sensitive content that was being posted on the site by the users might face the wrath of the Indian Government as the govt plans to take legal action against the popular social networking site.

The spread of rumors via number of websites, Facebook, YouTube and bulk SMS; has terrorized the nation after mass exodus to the North East. Government has viewed the issue as a national security threat and has asked the social media to censor the objectionable content.

It has also notified Twitter that it would be subjected to legal action if it does not yield to the demands of the government which has tried finding out the origins of the hate messages that were being spread on the Internet.

While other websites have also been asked the same, Facebook and Youtube have confirmed that the origin was in Pakistan. The government is at a loss when dealing with sites like Twitter etc which do not have a base in India unlike the Facebook and YouTube (Google's division for social video sharing). The Government can work with these offices and sleuth the culprits.

Twitter had not responded firmly, the department of telecom, DoT has said and that the Indian Government would take all steps necessary to ensure that the problem is solved.

It has been known already that the US Department of Homeland Security would help our nation to help eliminate all the websites promoting hate messages, morphed pictures and other sensitive video content.

Since Twitter, based in US, is far away from our nation there is a delay in the response and also that the action initiated would be incomplete on account of the instant re-tweeting that could spread the messages.

A measure, considered to take the appeal of the social networking sites, where all the posted tweets are screened for provocative material would be the only solution.
