NCW demands an apology from Bedi for insensitive "Small Rape" comment

Kiran Bedi was met with severe criticism after she said "small rape" in a protest against the government ignoring the corrupt officials. The National Commission for Women had not taken the issue lightly and had condemned her remarks on Sunday, demanding an apology from Kiran Bedi the former IPS officer.
NCW member Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar had said that Bedi being a woman should have known better than anyone else. She was also a former IPS officer. She should have known better than making such boorish comments. A rape is a serious crime and there cannot be a small rape.
Bedi earlier had slammed at the media that they should be concentrating on the corrupt officials such as the UPA ministers and not the people who are involved in small rapes. She also said that they should instead cover Anna's revolution at Jantar Mantar.
"The NCW has decided to take a suo motu cognisance of Ms Bedi's statement. It will issue a notice to her on Monday," Prabhavalkar said.
Following her remarks Bedi on twitter said that it was deliberate wrong news to shroud the people from the truth. She said that she in fact was referring to the small officer who was involved in the rape in contrast to the bigger thieves (corrupt officials) who are being set free. She
After her remarks created a furore, Bedi tweeted that "deliberate wrong news" was being circulated to distract people from knowing what she said.
"I never said rape is small crime. It was about comparative punishment." Bedi said
