Massive fires broke out in the biggest petrochemical plant of Iran killing at least one while 15 others were found to be injured, the Iranian media said on Saturday. The fire was put out later by the disaster management team.
Flames from the Bandar Imam petrochemical complex in Mahshahr, southwest of Iran, started on Friday after a gas leak in the feeding line as reported by the Shana news agency of Iran Oil Ministry.
Qodratollah Nasiri, the security head of Iran's National Petrochemical Co, said that there was one person killed in the accident but the fire was extinguished. He added "The processing units at the plant were not damaged... but some of the units are offline."
Petroleum products like polymers, benzenes, propane gas, butane and fuel oil are produced in large quantities over 4 million tonnes.
