Gujrat can now boast of lowest unemployment rate in India, Goa with highest unemployment

According to the Labor Bureau's reports submitted on Tuesday, India has an overall unemployment rate of 3.8% for the last year. Surprisingly, the unemployment in urban areas was more than the unemployment in the rural areas. In other terms, approximately 4 out of 100 people are unemployed.

Goa, Kerala, Bihar and West Bengal according to the survey were reported to have highest unemployment rates in India. On the proud side were Gujrat, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Punjab.

Union Ministry of Labor and Employment's division, Labor Bureau, based in Chandigarh, had conducted the Second Annual Employment and Unemployment Survey 2011-12. It had included 81,000 rural households and 47,000 urban households in the survey. To define employment it took the Usual Principal Status as a reference as a basis for the survey.

Data from the survey shows apalling figures of female employment. Its is no news that the unemployment rates in India are higher than the developed world, the percentage of women employed are abysmal. Only 17.9% women in the urban areas are employed weighed against a 73.3% of working men.

Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh have hecorded a better number of working females while Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand are on the opposite end with poor proportions.

The primary sector, the back bone of Indian Economy which includes various aspects like agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining – is the biggest employer in India even today.
