Surendranath Bose receives the deserved respect and recognition

A proposal to name a road in Kolkata after the name of the eminent yet unsung physicist, Satyendra Nath Bose, was approved by the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday. The West Bengal Assembly has taken this decision commemorating the discovery of the Higgs Boson, or more popularly the God Particle, in which the foundation work was given by Bose.

Boson, the newest member of the sub atomic particle family, which is the reason matter exerts weight, derives its name from Satyendranath Bose. The Mayor is yet to decide which road to name after him.

Satyen Bose was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1894 during the British Colonial Rule. He was a lecturer in the University of Calcutta and Dhaka.

The most predominant works of Bose includes the works he sent to Einstein in 1924 which led to the discovery of the Bose Eisntein Condensate Phenomenon. This work led to the discovery of Bosons- named after Bose and Fermions named after Enrico Fermi, an Italian Physicist.

Bose was never much recognised until today. His works have led to many other discoveries which were felicitated with Nobel Prizes but he himself has not received any yet.

He was awarded the second highest civilian award in India, Padma Vibhushan.  Bose passeed away in 1974.
