Just hours after the 5-year-old girl Mahi dies in Haryana after slipping into a 70 feet borewell, another one died in Howrah district of West Bengal on Sunday. The incident occured at 3.30 pm on sunday when a 17-year-old Rausan Ali Mondal slipped into a well in Eksara village in Howrah district. The Clay walled well had a depth of 30 feet and the mason boy was rescued 10 and half hours after falling into the well.
A disaster management team was rushed to the site. Police officials said that the mouth of the well was very narrow, which was making it difficult for the rescue team to get down and save the boy. The well was filled with water and divers were pressed into service for the rescue.
West Bengal Disaster Management and Fire Services minister Javed Khan, who supervised the operations, said some local well diggers along with disaster management and Fire Brigade personnel pulled out the body from the well at around 2 am and rushed to Howrah State General Hospital where doctors declared the youth 'brought dead'. Inspite of controversies of delay in action the Minister pushed aside the rumours and said that the personnel were on time. (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
