While the debates on presidential candidates are in full swing, people are equally interested to know as to when the notification to presidential elections would be released. And the sources have said that the Election Commission is likely to issue a notification to presidential election probably sometime in the mid of June.
It is known that President Pratibha Patil’s term will come to an end on July 24 and a new President has to be elected to take over her. An official from the Election Commission has said that a notification was earlier issued on June 13 and the EC is likely to issue notification around the same date this time too.
The official has also said that there is a checklist of 41 tasks for the presidential election and the work was already underway. While the Congress and BJP remained silent on the candidature, former speaker PA Sangma plunged into the presidential race and sought the support of the political parties. The sources said that Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalita already extended her support to Sangma and she reportedly telephone TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu to ask him to support Sangma.
Meanwhile, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has said that the party would not support Pranab Mukherjee as a presidential candidate. One has to wait for another couple of days to know the candidature of Congress party.
