Naxals are fighters, not terrorists: Ompuri

Bollywood actor Ompuri has stirred up a controversy. He has said that Naxalites were fighters and not terrorists. Justifying the kidnap of Sukma district collector, Ompuri said Naxal abducted Alex Paul Menon because he supported the social system against which Naxals had been fighting. He has also said that Naxals didn’t trouble the common man.

The 61-year-old actor said: "They are not terrorists because they don't resort to irresponsible acts of terror by planting bombs on streets. Naxals are fighters who fight for their rights. They don't harass the common man and the poor."

Ompuri is currently shooting for a Hindi film Chakravyuh. This film revolves around the lives of two friends and Naxalites. Chakravyuh is directed by Prakash Jha.
