Bhopal to witness grand ‘Surya Namaskar’ spectacle

Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal will witness a grand spectacle of mass ‘Surya Namaskar’ exercise by thousands of students on the occasion of the Jayanthi of Swami Vivekananda tomorrow.

The state government has made all arrangements to make it an international event by asking the officials to ensure maximum participation in the exercise. “We are sure the event will go on record in the Guinness Book of records,” said a senior government official in Bhopal today.

While the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan clarified that participation in the event is not compulsory, leaders of the minority community have opposed the idea describing it as un-Islamic. “It is part of the Government moves to saffronise the education system,” they alleged.

Muslim religious leaders have issued a fatwa to the students of their community asking them not to participate in the programme.

State School Education Minister Archana Chitnis told journalists in Bhopal today that Surya Namaskar is an exercise aimed at improving health and those who are not interested can keep away from the event. (JUBS)
