Flash mob publicity culture on the rise

The concept of flash mobs, appearing like a bolt from the blue and taking you by surprise at a major thoroughfare in the heart of a city to publicize products or services, is being increasingly resorted to by event management companies, social activists, TV channels and movie production houses in India.

So, when you find next time a flash mob dancing next to you while you’re shopping in the heart of your town, don’t get surprised.

The innovate concept of publicity first started in Mumbai where some 200 persons in colorful dresses danced to the Bollywood chartbuster ‘Rang de Basanti’ in November last at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

Then, various cities like Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi and even Delhi picked up the trend and witnessed several such shows.

Persons of different age groups are using the social networking cites like Facebook and Twitter for organizing such flash mob shows to spread their messages.

Recently, a flash mob at Sarojini Nagar in Delhi danced against sexual harassment and female foeticide. Very recently in Mumbai, southern star Dhanush led a flash mob and danced to his Tamil-English hit ‘Kolaveri di’ to promote the film ‘3.’ (JUBS)
