In a fresh threat to the Centre, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare today served an ultimatum saying he would take up his fast again on the last day of the winter session of parliament if a strong Lok pal bill is not passed by the Government by then.
The 74-year old Gandhian wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh serving this ultimatum and marking copies to the Congress party president Sonia Gandhi and Law Minister Salman Khurshid.
Observing he had withdrawn his 12-day fast on August 27 following a written assurance from the Prime Minister that the Jan Lok Pal bill would be passed in the winter session of Parliament, Hazare asked the Government and the congress leadership to keep its word to the nation and ensure that the bill is passed.
“Or else, I will launch my fast again from the last day of the winter session,” he said in his letter.
Reacting to the fresh ultimatum, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary said the action of Anna Team in writing the letter is very confusing and lacks in clarity.
“We understand from the letter that Team Anna is shrewd as it comes after announcing that they have nothing to do with politics,” she said in a statement.
