Another huge haul of ammunitions were recovered from the former LTTE stronghold of Mullaithivu by the special task force in Sri Lanka. The haul recovered on Monday consisted of 1,600 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition. Official sources claim that search operations by the military to recover hidden arms cache of the LTTE, which conducted a three-decade bloody war with the army for a separate state for the Tamils of Sri Lanka is a regular exercise since the last two and a half years when the LTTE was defeated.
Mullaithivu served as the LTTE's military capital since 1999 when the rebel group overran the government garrison there in a surprise attack killing several hundreds of soldiers. The fall of Mullaithivu to government troops in May 2009 signaled the end of the LTTE's campaign for a separate state for the Tamils, alleging discrimination against the minority community at the hands of the majority Sinhalese.
