It was back in 2010 that animal rights groups claimed a victory when they presented a petition of 180,000 signatures to the regional parliament, bringing about a ban- the second only issued by any of the country’s 17 regions. Although in 1991 the Canary Islands were the first to outlaw bullfighting there was far less of an outcry because it had never proven popular with locals.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Sunday, applauded Catalonia for this wonderful decision and asked other regions of Spain also to do the same to end this barbaric, inhumane, horrendous, and cruel practice.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also urged other countries of the world to ban bullfighting practice. European Union should impose a Europe-wide ban on all blood-sports. People, whose jobs were thus affected, should be rehabilitated in other jobs with related training. He stressed that non-violence was a greatest virtue. We had long been out of the caves. Let us get rid of these outdated traditions. World would be a better place without these blood-sports.
So as per sources Sunday was the last bull fight at La Monumental in Catalonia marking the end of centuries old tradition in northeastern Spain. They said bull-fighting was barbaric. Opponents, however, say they will challenge the ban in court.
