The most popular US daily The New York Times on Tuesday launched an India specific English website called India Ink that would depict Indian political developments, cultural and business matters, sports and lifestyle issues on a day-to-day basis.
The portal, the first ever country-specific one to provide a distinct perspective on news and events on India, can be accessed at http://india.blogs.nytimes.com/.
The New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson said in a statement that India is a vibrant country having a wealth of news and compelling news stories and the website would become part of the expansion of the daily’s global reach.
He further said that they are very much delighted to better serve their readers and advertisers in India and abroad who care deeply about news in the region through the website.
The website will have an expanded team in India and will provide on-the-ground coverage of the world’s biggest democracy and of a people who know that no matter how far they roam, their hearts will always be Indian, according to the statement.
