Amar Singh arrested, lodged in Tihar jail

amarSinghAWRejecting the bail plea of the Rajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi party leader Mr Amar Singh, one of the accused in the 2008 cash-for-vote-scam, CBI court today sent him to a two-week judicial custody after the Delhi police arrested him. Amar Singh was then sent to the Tihar jail.

Two former BJP MPs, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora, were also arrested and sent to Tihar jail along with Amar Singh. The three of them are accused in the infamous cash-for-vote-scam of 2008.

BJP top leader L.K. Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni is also to be arrested in the case but he didn’t appear in the case as he is stated to be abroad.

When the case came up for hearing, Amar Singh was not present but a little while later, he turned up with medical certificates requesting for bail. He made a fervent plea for bail on the ground that he had only recently undergone a kidney transplant in Singapore and required constant medical care.

“The infection in my urinary tract will be disastrous to my borrowed kidneys if I move among people. Kindly grant me bail on the medical grounds,” he requested the court.

However, the court was not amused and had said simply the bail plea was rejected. Immediately, Amar Singh was taken into custody and sent to the Tihar jail.
