State Plans four Monorail Corridors in Chennai.

monorail-corridorTamilnadu plans to have four monorail corridors in Chennai in Phase-I. This should cost over 16,000 Cr. As per the feasibility report submitted by Pallavan Transport Consultancy the corridors are Vandalur to Puzhal via Avadi, Vandalur to Velachery via Tambaram East, Poonamallee to Kathipurs via Porur and Poonamallee to Vadapalani via Valasaravakkam.

The Crisscrossing network will cover a length of 54KM, which shall be the longest anywhere in the world.

As the Central Participation is unlikely for the project, the State has invited bids for Build and Operate by private operators. The State shall provide the required land. A reasonable fare would be fixed by the Government based on a concessionaire agreement.

The Main focus is connecting the suburbs to the main city. The City is poised to be a mega city with over Ten million populations. The Suburban growth is phenomenal and this project would benefit them largely.

The Network will integrate with metro rail networks at Vadapalani and Kathipura Junction. Velachery and Madhavaram will have Inter-modal hubs with satellite Mofussil bus stands.
