Falling in line with the instructions of the party high command at last, the tainted Karnataka Chief Minister Mr Yeddyurappa has put in his papers this evening paving the way for the election of a new legislature leader tomorrow.
Yeddyurappa, the first ever BJP chief minister of a southern state, sent his quit letter to the party president Nitin Gadkari through fax, according to reports. The party high command, which has already directed him to resign, is rushing senior leaders Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley to Bangalore tomorrow to oversee the election of new legislature party leader.
An adamant and defiant Yeddyurappa could not find an alternative to quitting as he quickly realized that he was soon running out of support among the MLAs and Ministers in the backdrop of the party top brass asking him to resign. The BJP leadership has asked the intransigent Yeddyurappa to quit immediately in the wake of severe indictment by the Karnataka Lok Ayukta Mr Justice Santosh Hegde in the illegal mining case.
