An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude on Richter scale struck northern Japan today but fortunately, there were no immediate reports of loss of life or property. No tsunami alert was sounded by officials.
The quake struck at 1:34 PM (0434 GMT) off the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture in and around the same area at a depth of 40 km where a giant earthquake caused tsunami resulting in heavy loss of life and property and triggering a near nuclear disaster on March 11, 2011.
