New York City sued by Indian diplomat's daughter

Indian diplomat’s daughter sues New York City18-year old Krittika Biswas, daughter of Debashish Biswas, vice counsel at the Indian Consulate in Manhattan in the US, said she is suing the New York city government for $ 1.5 million for wrongfully arresting and ill treating her on suspicion of sending obscene emails to her teacher in Queens’ John Browne High School.

Her lawyer Ravi Batra said that Krittika was arrested and kept in prison for more than 24 hours in violation of international law, federal law, state and city
laws. Though the girl enjoyed diplomatic immunity, she was arrested and forced to accept the crime.

Speaking at a media conference in New York along with her lawyer, Biswas said a senior cop threatened her that she would have to spend time in prison with prostitutes and HIV persons unless she agreed to the crime. “ But the school authorities soon found that Krittika did not send the nasty emails and allowed her to resume her classes,” said her lawyer Batra.

“What is worse is that neither Mr. Debashish Biswas, father of the girl, nor the Consulate General of India, Prabhu Dayal, were informed of her arrest,” said Batra.

The girl claimed that a Chinese student actually sent the emails but the school authorities neither forced his arrest nor suspended him from the school. “I have decided to sue the authorities for my wrongful confinement,” she said.
