Indian student raped, murdered in Sydney

Tosha Thakkar, rape and murder, Southern Cross University, Sydney College of Business and ITIndian student Tosha Thakkar, 24, a permanent resident of Sydney for the last three years pursuing her accounting course at the Sydney College of Business and IT, affiliated to the Southern Cross University, was raped and murdered by an Australian.

A suit case containing her body was found on March 11 in a canal by workers who informed police.

Police have already arrested 19-year-old Daniel Stani-Reginald in connection with the rape and murder. He was produced before a court and the accused did not seek even bail as Indian students gathered outside holding placards and raising slogans demanding justice on Sunday, according to Sydney Morning Herald. The court also formally refused to grant him bail.

Anish Popli, husband of Thakkar’s first cousin, said the girl was calm and busy always with her studies. “Nobody has any reason to attack her,” he said.

Southern Cross University extended its condolences to Thakkar’s family, friends and colleagues.
