Additional District Judge Talwant Singh of Delhi today ordered 8-day police custody for the former chief of the Common Wealth Games (CWG), Mr Suresh Kalmadi who was arrested by the CBI on Monday.
After being arrested for his role in the alleged irregularities in awarding contracts for the October 2010 Games, Kalmadi had spent the night in CBI custody.
Kalmadi, 66, faces charges of illegally awarding contracts to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result system for the Games causing a loss of Rs 95 Cr. to the government. The judge said Kalmadi can meet his relatives and counselors daily for 40 minutes and he would also undergo medical examinations every 48 hours during his police custody.
Slipper thrown at Kalmadi
When Kalmadi was brought to the Patiala House Courts complex this morning by the police amid tight security, one Mr Kapil Thakur had flung a slipper at him in ager. He was later taken into custody by the Police. Police said Thakur is unemployed and has thrown the slipper in frustration.
